Fuller, S.P. Louisburg Square Plan.

April 30, 1826

Named for the Cape Breton fort captured by New England forces on June 17, 1745, it is drawn up the surveyor for the Mount Vernon Associates. The 22 townhouses around the square are built between the mid-1830s and mid-1840s. Their owners form The Louisburg Square Proprietors, reputed to be the first homeowners’ association in the U.S., at a meeting at Number 19 in 1844. The fence around the park in the middle of the square is erected in 1846. The fountain is installed in 1850.
